Roaming zones

  • In all countries within the European Zone, including the United Kingdom, the same rates apply as in Belgium. So no extra roaming costs!

  • Travelling outside the European Zone? We block your usage to prevent unexpected costs.

Global data pass

Do you want to surf mobile outside the European Zone? Well, you can! With the Global Data Pass, you can use mobile data in many countries outside the European Zone.

Heads up!

Are you in a border area of the European Zone or traveling by ferry, cruise ship, or plane? Then your phone, without you realizing, might connect to a more expensive network. We recommend always turning off data roaming on a ship or in a plane. That way, even if you connect to Wi-Fi, your phone won’t accidentally switch to an expensive satellite connection.

Where are you traveling?

Check the applicable rates for your mobile subscription or your prepaid card based on your destination.

A few tips

A few extra tips - free of charge!

1

Check the number of characters in your text messages. On your iPhone, for example, you can turn this on via Settings > Messages. The counter helps you avoid messages that are too long to send in one single SMS.

2

Have others call you instead of the other way around! On our roaming page, you’ll see that receiving calls is usually cheaper. On top of that: the person calling you doesn’t pay any extra? Yep, even when you're outside the European Zone.

Frequently asked questions

*The European Zone consists of the following countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Moldova, Réunion, Romania, Saint Martin (French part), Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and United Kingdom.

Which countries are part of the European Zone?

Because we're legally required to send you an SMS about the applicable rates, you can’t turn this off completely.

What can you do? If you text ‘STOP’ to 1957, you won’t receive any more messages while you’re abroad. Once you're back in Belgium and travel abroad again, all notifications will be switched back on automatically. You can always find the rates on our roaming page.

How do I turn off the SMS notification about mobile data usage abroad?

You can always monitor your usage in real time. So make sure to doublecheck this in your My Viking account.

I got an email telling me I’m out of data, but that’s not correct. What now?

Unfortunately, they don't. The Viking advantage, that allows Vikings to call and text each other free of charge, only works within the Belgian territory.

Do Vikings call and text each other free of charge abroad?

To listen to your voicemail while abroad, call +32 456 19 19 33. You’ll need your voicemail PIN for this. Within the European Zone, calling your voicemail is free. Outside the European Zone, you’ll pay the local rate for an outgoing call. You can find those rates on our roaming page.

What are the costs to listen to my voicemail abroad?

Getting unexpected calls or texts from a foreign number? Don’t just call back, it could be Wangiri fraud.

This type of fraud involves automated calls to random numbers, so it doesn’t necessarily mean your number was leaked. Unfortunately, Mobile Vikings can’t block these numbers for you, but you can do it yourself via the settings on your Android or iOS device.

What should I do if I'm called by a foreign number?

Make the most of local Wi-Fi or buy a local SIM card at your destination. You’ll often find them at airports.
