How do I avoid extra costs with a subscription when I am in a country outside the European Zone?

Here are some tips on how to avoid extra costs: Limit the number of characters  in your text message. For example, in your iPhone, you enable this via Settings → Message. The counter shows you when a text message is too long to send in one message. Have people call you  instead of you calling them. Our  roaming page  will show you that an incoming call is usually much cheaper. And, the person calling you does not pay extra because you are in a country outside the European Zone. You can of course use  local Wifi  as much as possible or use a  local SIM card . Usually you can purchase them in airports. Deactivate your voicemail  through your  My Viking account . If someone leaves a message on your voicemail, the call minutes will still be charged, even if your phone is on airplane mode. You can't use your mobile data bundle outside of the European Zone. We automatically block your mobile data to avoid unexpectedly high costs. Do you still want to surf outside the European Zone? You can! With the  Global Data Pass  you can use mobile data in many countries outside the European Zone. Check all the details  here . Your usage in a country outside the European Zone is not included in your monthly bundle, so you have to pay these charges separately. You can check the roaming rates on our  roaming page . This occurs automatically and appears in your monthly invoice or payment invitation.

How do I disable roaming?

You disable the “data roaming” option on your device. This ensures that your device does not use up mobile data when you are in another country. Do you also want to block calls and text messages? You can do so via 'manage services' in  My Vikings .

Do Vikings call and text each other free of charge abroad?

Unfortunately, they don't. The Viking advantage, that allows Vikings to call and text each other free of charge, only works within the Belgian territory.

What can I do when my data roaming doesn't work?

First of all, check whether the mobile internet settings are still correct. You can double-check using our  settings guides . If you cannot connect to the local mobile internet immediately, go over this checklist before you do anything else. Restart your device as soon as you arrive abroad. Try to establish a connection with the different local networks manually through your device settings. One network may provide a more stable connection than another. For Android:  Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Operators. Deactivate the option 'Select automatically'. It may take up to two minutes for the available networks to appear. Select one of the local providers. For iOS:  Settings > Cellular > Network Selection. Deactivate the option 'Automatic'. It may take up to two minutes for the available networks to appear. Select one of the local providers. Check whether the option 'data roaming' is enabled in your device settings. This will usually be available in the 'Mobile networks' menu. Are you traveling outside of the EU? In that case, you won't be able to surf to avoid unexpectedly high costs. Do you really want to use mobile data outside the EU? That’s possible!
