Changing the Wi-Fi channel

Your Wi-Fi modem broadcasts on different frequency bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and — on newer modems — 6 GHz. Each of these bands is divided into multiple channels. If you're experiencing a slow or unstable connection, switching to a less congested channel may help. Follow the steps below for your modem.

B box

  1. 1

Go to http://192.168.1.1 and log in. The password can be found on the back of your modem.

  2. 2

    Select Wi-Fi.

  3. 3

Under Channel, open the drop-down menu.

  4. 4

    Select a channel.

  5. 5

Repeat the previous step for 5 GHz Wi-Fi if needed.

  6. 6

    Select OK.

Internet box & Internet box+

  1. 1

Go to your My Viking account.

  2. 2

Select your Internet at home installation.

  3. 3

    Go to Advanced settings.

  4. 4

Do you see Single SSID? Set it to Inactive. Don't see this option? Please contact our Helpdesk.

Changing the Wi-Fi frequency

B box

  1. 1

Go to http://192.168.1.1 and log in. The password can be found on the back of your modem.

  2. 2

    Select Wave.

  3. 3

Select OK. Please note: manually changing the frequency can solve issues with a slow Wi-Fi connection. 2.4 GHz offers wider coverage, while 5 GHz provides faster speeds over a shorter distance.

  4. 4

Your B-Box 3 will now save the new settings. Once this is done, you will need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

Frequently asked questions

Got an Internet Box(+)? You can easily share your Wi-Fi via your My Viking account. Go to 'Internet at home' and click ‘Share Wi-Fi’ next to the illustration of your Internet Box+. You’ll get a QR code that lets someone join your network in no time.

Still using a B-box 3 modem? Then sharing Wi-Fi via your My Viking account isn’t available, unfortunately.

How can I share my Wi-Fi?

Yes, you can! After your installation, you can use your so-called PPPoE credentials to set up your Fritzbox for continued use. You can request these credentials by contacting our helpdesk!

I have a Fritzbox, can I keep using it?

To reset your modem, press the RESET button using a pin or similar object. Hold it down for about 10 seconds until the LED lights turn off and then turn back on.

This will erase all custom settings you have made (network names, passwords, port forwarding, etc.).

How do I reset my modem?

You can! Just fill in this form and we will arrange it for you. Count on 3-5 working days for the processing of your request and the shipment of the wall mount. Good to know: the wall mount and shipping are completely free. ;-)

Can I request a wall mount for my modem?

Yes, to use Hyperspeed internet, you'll need an Internet Box+ modem and an ONT Box. The new modem will be connected to the fiber network via the ONT Box. A technician will visit your home to carry out the installation. Your current Wi-Fi boosters will also be replaced with brand-new Wi-Fi Boosters+.

Do I need a new modem and/or boosters to use Hyperfast internet?

The modem is the device that establishes the internet connection by translating the signal from your provider. The router then creates and manages your local home network and distributes the internet connection to all your devices, both wirelessly (Wi-Fi) and via cables. Our Mobile Vikings modems; Internet Box, Internet Box+ and B-box 3 are combo devices that include both a modem and a router in one unit.

What is the difference between a modem and a router?
