Call via mobile internet or wifi

What is calling via mobile internet or VoLTE?

  • VoLTE stands for Voice Over LTE. And LTE is also known as 4G. This allows you to make and receive calls anywhere in Belgium and use mobile data at the same time, provided you have a mobile data (4G) signal.

  • Activating VoLTE is free, but when you make a call, the minutes are deducted from your plan or call credit (just like with a normal call).

  • Both Vikings with a subscription and those with a prepaid card can use VoLTE.

  • Is your VPN active? Then VoLTE won’t work. Calling over 4G is not available abroad.

What are the benefits?

Super fast

Your call starts more quickly because your phone begins ringing faster. This means the person you are calling can pick up sooner.

Better sound quality

It’s as if you’re standing right next to the person you’re calling. There’s no background noise either.

Multitasking

With VoLTE, you can surf and call at the same time over 4G, at the same speeds. This can be useful, for example, if you’re calling with your earbuds in and want to look something up at the same time. Hands-free calling in the car without losing the connection to navigation apps is also a thing of the past.

Activate VoLTE

Note: After configuring it on your phone, it may take a day before VoLTE becomes active on your line.

What is calling via wifi or VoWiFi?

  • VoWiFi uses your Wi-Fi connection for incoming and outgoing calls. This is especially useful in locations where mobile coverage is limited but a stable Wi-Fi connection is available. This way, you remain reachable even in buildings with thick walls or in basements.

  • Activating VoWiFi is free, but when you make a call, the minutes are deducted from your bundle (just like with a normal call). Calling over Wi-Fi is not available abroad.

There are no additional costs associated with using VoWiFi. Calls are billed just like mobile phone calls on the network, depending on your price plan.

Activate VoWiFi

Phones that support VoWiFi/Wi-Fi calling check which connection is best before you make a call. Based on that, the device decides which connection to use to start the call. If it turns out during the conversation that a better connection becomes available, the phone will switch to it seamlessly. This makes calling even easier.

    Go to the Start screen and choose Settings.

    Scroll down and choose Apps.

    Scroll down and choose Wi-Fi Calling.

    Enable Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.

    Choose Enable.

Android

    Go to the Start screen and open the Phone app.

    Select Settings.

    Scroll down.

    Select Wi-Fi Calling.

    Enable an option, in this case, enable SIM 1.

    Choose Calling Preference.

    Choose an option, in this case, Wi-Fi preferred.

    Enable Make calls using Wi-Fi.

Do I have to choose?

If your device supports both VoLTE and VoWiFi, you can activate both options. Your device will take care of the rest by choosing the connection that works best for you. It will always give priority to mobile data. If your 4G connection is too weak, your device will use the Wi-Fi signal. When your connection improves again, you will switch back to calling over 4G.
